Process Breakdown
This was an announcement flyer I made for my workshop on the history of visual communication and where it's headed in terms of both static and motion design. The workshop title aimed to be a logline for the topics that would be addressed (visual communication + a concentration on motion) and the upheaval students were grappling with upon the rise of AI (commotion).
My insights were majorly dependent on Steven Heller and Teresa Fernandes' second edition of Becoming a Graphic Designer (which covered a myriad of digital and physical mediums); but, watching job requirements expand in real time for creative roles also informed my presentation as the book (released in 2002) spoke of a similar phenomenon in the early 2000s with the advent of Macintosh and the surge towards digital media. The additional programs designers had to learn to keep up with the industry parallels the current pressure to learn AI tools.
However, to quell the fears of my fellow students, I focused on Heller's key takeaway:
"The term graphic design is not antiquated, but more broadly encompassing than it was"
