Process Breakdown
These two pieces are mockups for an expo, and allowed me to experiment with the Boris Continuum FX plugin. I think the BCC LED and Prism presets are going to be my motion design version of putting garlic powder in everything. The LED preset is what creates that dot effect in both pieces, and the RGB effect is due to the Prism preset. While I'll have to fight the urge to sprinkle these effects into all future projects, this project reminded me of my favorite experience as a creative—the happy accidents that come from messing around with a software.
I've had the BCC plugin downloaded for a while, but often avoided using it as it slowed down my After Effects. However, in search of something new to spice up my work, I decided to be patient with the plugin and was pleasantly surprised with the results. I was proud of my ability to create a CRT effect in the first piece through hours of trial and error, and it was refreshing to play around with default After Effects presets like CC Cylinder—a tool that is often seen as basic or overused—and see how it actually enhanced my design in the second piece.
