Process Breakdown
This project conceptualized my favorite track from Addison Rae's debut album Addison. Taking inspiration from the title, "In the Rain", I stuck to an earthy color palette and incorporated various rainy day motifs into the designs. While the lyrics overtly describe Addison's willingness to only react to the public's opinion of her behind closed doors, I explored the latent meaning by including a puddle in the disc art to represent her self-reflection.
Considering the front cover is the first thing consumers would see, it made sense to follow Addison's word and conceal a gloomy, unsightly aesthetic from the "public". The quote "after the rain comes the sun" came to mind while creating this cover, so I took a more optimistic approach with the design.
The number 8 on the sewage drain in the disc art takes from the song being the 8th track on the album. This detail, however, became obscured when I refined the design to make the circular drain shape outline the spindle hole. The faint radial grid in the back cover creates a minimal umbrella arrangement that gets lost in a high exposure, blown out silhouette of an actual paparazzi picture of Addison in the rain. While perhaps an obscure design element, the choice to utilize a real photo of her stands congruent with the song's underscoring of the lows of celebrity life.
